Meth Testing & Screening

From rapid DIY meth residue screening kits to independent forensic property testing, Contam Solutions helps you understand the right testing pathway for your property.

Methamphetamine residue can remain on surfaces after use or manufacture and may not be visible. Whether you need a fast preliminary indication or independent documented testing, Contam Solutions can help explain the options. We sell rapid DIY screening kits and, where formal testing is required, can recommend two or three independent testing companies we trust based on direct experience. We have no commercial relationship with those providers; the client engages them directly.

The Importance of Getting Your Property Tested

Methamphetamine residue can remain on surfaces after use or manufacture and may not be visible, making testing important where contamination is suspected.

Property-owner, tenancy and contamination requirements vary between states, territories and councils. Where contamination is suspected or an authority requires investigation, appropriate testing can help establish the property’s condition and the next steps required.

Testing provides objective information about whether methamphetamine residue is present and, where formal testing is undertaken, can establish the level and extent of contamination for remediation planning.

Which Type of Meth Testing Do You Need?

There are two different testing pathways, depending on whether you need a fast preliminary indication or a documented independent property assessment.

DIY Meth Residue Kits

A rapid DIY meth residue test kit is an indicative screening tool for preliminary testing of selected hard surfaces. It provides a fast first indication in under five minutes and can help determine whether independent formal testing is required.

DIY kits are not laboratory analysis, are not a formal property assessment and are not suitable for post-remediation validation. A positive result is your cue to move to independent forensic testing — see What Happens After a Positive Meth Test? below.

Independent Forensic Testing

Independent forensic/property testing is the appropriate pathway where a documented assessment is required – including after any positive rapid screening result, where contamination may be significant, following suspected drug manufacture or police involvement, where a council or authority is involved, or where remediation needs to be formally scoped.

Contam Solutions can recommend two or three independent testing companies we trust based on direct experience with the quality of their testing and reporting. We have no commercial relationship with any company we recommend. The client engages the provider directly; Contam Solutions does not arrange or manage the testing.

The testing provider undertakes appropriate surface sampling, including NIOSH Method 9111 where applicable, with samples submitted to a NATA-accredited laboratory for analysis. The resulting independent testing or assessment report documents the sampling and laboratory results and may include a Remediation Action Plan (RAP) where the testing provider prepares one.

When Do You Need Testing?

Whether you are a homeowner, landlord or property manager, testing provides objective information about a property’s methamphetamine contamination status and helps determine the appropriate next step.

It is not possible to determine the level or extent of methamphetamine contamination from appearance alone. Even where only light or casual use is suspected, results can vary. A DIY kit can provide a fast preliminary indication, but on its own it isn’t a basis for remediation decisions — that requires independent forensic property testing.

If you suspect a property may have been affected by methamphetamine contamination, choose the appropriate testing pathway rather than waiting for visible signs.

What Happens After a Positive Meth Test?

If a rapid screening result is positive, the next step is independent forensic property testing to establish the level and extent of methamphetamine contamination.

Where the independent testing confirms contamination requiring remediation, Contam Solutions can review the testing report and any Remediation Action Plan (RAP), prepare the remediation scope and undertake the required remediation works.

Following remediation, the property is independently tested again to confirm whether the completed work meets the relevant Australian standards.

Frequently Asked Questions

A DIY kit provides an indicative screening result from the surfaces sampled. Independent forensic/property testing is undertaken by an independent provider and may include documented surface sampling and laboratory analysis, providing the formal baseline needed for remediation planning and other property decisions.

DIY kits are indicative screening tools rather than laboratory analysis. They provide a fast preliminary indication from the surfaces sampled. Treat a positive result as a prompt to arrange independent forensic testing, not as confirmation that remediation is required.

Yes. Independent forensic testing provides a clear, documented baseline to plan remediation around and establishes the level and extent of contamination within the property.

Following remediation, independent validation testing is then required to confirm whether the property meets the relevant Australian standards for methamphetamine contamination.

Requirements vary between states, territories and councils and can depend on the circumstances of the property. Where contamination is suspected or an authority requires investigation, independent testing can establish the property’s condition and the information needed for the next step.

Pricing depends on the kit pack and the number of rooms or areas you want to screen. Use the current product pricing and room-coverage guidance on the Rapid Screening Kits shop page.

No. Contam Solutions sells rapid screening kits and provides testing guidance, but independent forensic/property testing is undertaken by an independent testing provider engaged directly by the client.

No. We recommend two or three independent testing companies based on our direct experience with the quality of their testing and reporting. We have no commercial relationship with those providers and receive no payment or referral fee. The client engages the provider directly.
